Scoliosis

Scoliosis My 14-year-old daughter has recently been diagnosed with scoliosis. The doctor say nothing can be done-we have to ‘watch and wait’ and then consider surgery if the curve in her back increases. However, we are unsure what exercise she can or should do. Also, she experiences pain and we wonder what is the best thing for this. Can you help?

Sciatica

Sciatica I'm writing on behalf of my father, who is 62 and crippled with pain from sciatica. He has tried massage, acupuncture and painkillers but has been housebound for the past four weeks, mostly lying on the floor and unable to walk. The doctor has said that he has to ride it out, but is referring him to a specialist. I'm really worried; he is slightly overweight and usually plays a lot of golf – could either or both of these be contributing factors?

Spots in the Eye

Spots in the Eye I had a fall some years ago (from a wall after a rather wild party) and since then have had several black spots floating sporadically in my right eye. One moves around but returns to the middle of the eye and can be distracting when I drive. Is there anything I can do to reduce or eliminate them?

Stye

Stye Once, when I was e child, I suffered from styes on both eyes. They became very inflamed just before my 11-plus exam. My GP lanced them, which made my upper and lower lids extremely sore. I didn't suffer- again until three months ago - 37 years later I have a stye like sore in the centre of each of my lower lids. I was able to burst them when they first appeared, and then I used Golden Eye ointment, but they are still very red, although not painful. My GP says that they are not inflamed and there is nothing he can prescribe. Can you give me any advice?

Sex Life

Sex Life My husband and I have been married for l5 years and have two lovely children. We are very affectionate but we seldom make love. What can you suggest to put back the spark?

Sore Throat

Sore Throat For as long as I can remember I have suffered from sore throats throughout the year. I now suffer from severe throat infections every four to six weeks, which leave me exhausted. Sometimes I also have horrible catarrh. My doctor will no longer give me antibiotics because she feels that I am becoming immune to them. I am on the waiting list for the homoeopathic hospital but it may be two years before someone can see me. I take garlic and cod-liver oil every day. Can you help?

Snoring Problem

Snoring Problem My husband snores every night. Sometimes seems to stop breathing. The doctor doesn't seem worried, but I read that it might be a severe condition called sleep apnoea. Also, I find it very difficult to sleep and occasionally have to move to the spare room to get some Proper rest. What do you recommend?

Stop Hyperventilating

Stop Hyperventilating I have asthma, which is well controlled by drugs. But recently I have developed the habit of hyperventilating. This happens at the slightest stress and stops activities such as gardening or walking, which haven't been limited by my asthma. Can you suggest any treatments or exercises for this problem?

Skin's Elasticity

Skin's Elasticity After losing weight and going from size 24 to size 12 in a fairly short time, I'm left with lagging skin on my breasts, stomach and inner thighs. To be honest, I did not do much exercise during that time, although now I visit the gym three to four times a week. I'm afraid my skin has lost its elasticity – and I'm only 28. What do You recommend?

Scrotal Itch

Scrotal Itch Please help my 42-year-old husband, who is being slowly driven mad by an extremely itchy scrotum. He has consulted his GP often and been prescribed many types of topical creams including hydrocortisone, all to no avail. The only temporary relief is a topical anti-itch cream from the chemist. His underwear is hand-washed in non-bio powder and well rinsed. There's no rash, no infestation. Could it be diet? We are prepared to try anything!

Smelly Feet

Smelly Feet I would love some advice on my 20-year-old son’s feet. They smell so bad that his socks can’t be left in the laundry basket-they have to be put in a separate bag. Even his bed sheets stinks his shoes can make a whole room pong. The rest of his body odour seems normal.

Spotty Skin

Spotty Skin I am 35 and have suffered from spotty skin since adolescence. I have the whole range - blackheads, whiteheads, pustules and painful cyst-like spots. I was prescribed the contraceptive pill Dianette, which has helped, but it doesn't solve the problem long term. Why am I still getting this plague of acne? And are there natural remedies to help me?

Stretch Marks

Stretch Marks My 16-year-old daughter is distraught that red stretch marks have appeared on her legs, tummy and upper arms, even though she has not had children. She is so embarrassed that she won’t wear a swimsuit or shorts on holiday. I know that these marks won’t disappear altogether, but is there something that you could recommend that would make them fade?

Sun Rash

Sun Rash This year, my three-year-old daughter has reacted very badly to the sun and has developed a red, bumpy, itchy rash on her face and body. Antihistamine does not prevent it, although calamine lotion minimises the itching. What else can I do, as she finds it so uncomfortable.

Sweating Hands

Sweating Hands My daughter, now 22, has suffered from sweaty hands since she was very young. Sometimes it's so bad it actually drips off them. She finds it very embarrassing. I have read about surgery but it sounds too drastic. Is there anything else which will help?
